What to do to be a good host

Deciding to become a host is halfway to becoming a good host! Being a good host on GlobeSisters involves creating a positive and welcoming environment for your guests. A good host can be critical to someone else’s travel experience but will also help create a great experience for the host as well! Now that you’re halfway there, what’s the other half? If this is your first time being a host, or if you are seeking improvements, here are some tips to help you become a great host on GlobeSisters:

Create a detailed and accurate profile

Your profile is the first thing that potential guests will see, so it's important to make it as detailed and accurate as possible. Include information about yourself, your interests, and your living situation. Be sure to also include any house rules or expectations you have for your guests.

Be responsive

Respond to messages from potential guests in a timely manner. Make sure to answer any questions they may have and let them know if you're available to host them. Many guests report issues regarding hosts that didn't respond and they didn’t know where to park, or the wrong password to the house, etc. Keep in mind that your response will help someone get into their accommodation faster after an exhausting traveling day!

Communicate clearly

Before your guest arrives, make sure to communicate all the necessary details such as check-in and check-out times, house rules, and any other important information. This is why a good profile is so important– clear information will minimize the need for last-minute text messages/calls.

Respect your guests' privacy

While it's important to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable, it's also important to respect their privacy. Make sure to give them space when they need it and allow them to have time to themselves. Again, don’t be afraid to communicate with the guest to see what they’re comfortable with, some people may be more open to emerging themselves with the host.

Show them around if you have time or share some tips

If your guests are new to the area and you happen to have some leisure time, show them around and help them get to know the neighborhood. This can include giving them a tour of your city or showing them your favorite local spots. A little tour from the host will brighten their day and try to enjoy the process yourself by sharing your favorite places!

Enjoy your time!

Ultimately, we hope being a host help contribute to your happiness. Make it a fun experience where you get to meet new people at your place! The idea of homestay is chill and fun, both for the guest and the host. It is very kind and courageous of you to share your place and become a host, so make it into whichever way you like! If your day is a little brighter because of your host experience, you’re at the right place!

What NOT to do

When we say a host can define a tourist’s experience, we mean it. According to GlobeSisters guests, these are the most important things that you should not do:

Lack of communication

For guest, communication is key. It could be stressful for a guest if hosts are unresponsive, not providing clear directions or check-in instructions.

Dirty or unsafe living conditions

Even if you home do not need to be the cleanest, it is important to have a asafe that do not make the guest feell uncomfortable and unwelcome.

Inappropriate behavior

GlobeSisters is not a dating platform. In this case, hosts should not do make any unwanted advances or not respecting boundaries of their guests.

Overcrowding space

GlobeSisters goal is to have the spirit of travel and share with people. So overcrowding the space is really not the goal, which can lead to lack of privacy for guest.

Cancellation

Canceling a stay last minute could be stressful for the guest when traveling. Please give them head up in advance if that happen. We understand that an emergency can occur. At GlobeSisters, we usually have some last minute accommodations if that happens in the most active cities.

These are all the things you need to know to become a great host! Hosting can be a very fun and rewarding experience. We hope you enjoy finding friends on GlobeSisters and during their stays and we encourage you to go on trips yourself and meet other hosts!
